Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the influencing factors of post-traumatic growth and adaptive and maladaptive cognitive-emotional regulation on psycho-social adjustment of post-operative gastric cancer patients and their relevance. This study conducted descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis on 145 patients who receive medical treatment in outpatient clinic after gastric cancer surgery in 1 hospital located in B Metropolitan City using the Psychosocial Adjustment to Illness Scale-Self Report (PAIS-SR), the Korean version of Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (K-PTGI), and the Korean Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (K-CERQ). Psycho-social adjustment was significantly correlated with post-traumatic growth and adaptive emotional control, while showing significantly negative correlation with maladaptive emotion control. The factors affecting psycho-social adjustment after gastric cancer surgery were shown in the order of health status awareness, family living together, adaptive emotional control, age, spouse, maladaptive emotional control, and postoperative treatment and the explanatory power of the model was 45%. Based on the above findings, an intervention program that can apply cognitive-emotional control tailored to the characteristics of the subjects should be developed and provided to improve psychosocial adjustment of gastric cancer surgery patients.
